Ian Hardianto Siahaan joined the faculty as a lecturer and researcher in Mechanical Engineering in 2003, focusing on automotive lighting and control systems as well as the simulation of light intensity distribution. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sumatera Utara and earned both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya.
Experience in experimental research, prototype design, and the development of numerical simulation models and control systems serves as a vital foundation for his role as an educator and researcher. He is actively engaged in developing intelligent control-based adaptive headlamp systems; modeling light distribution using MATLAB, ray tracing approaches, and the inverse-square law; and validating simulation results against laboratory light intensity measurements. In addition to research, he participates in community service initiatives—supported by national grants from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology via the PKM scheme—focusing specifically on the application of appropriate technology and the development of mechanical engineering systems for the community.
Active in research and scholarly publication, he has published numerous papers in reputable national and international journals. His primary research interests include lighting systems (adaptive headlamps) and automotive control, numerical simulation and engineering computation, optimization of light intensity distribution, and the design and development of mechanical systems.
